Mill Farm Heritage

Mill Farm was established by Lucy & Marilyn’s grandparents Robert & Josie Jakes in 1975. On what is now the meadow, the family grew vegetables and sold them to the local villages and Cambridge market. Both their grandparents and parents built homes on the land and then followed by the opening of the farm shop. Many local residents worked on the farm and in the shop. There was a constant buzz of people and activity. As young girls Lucy & Marilyn often helped out packing produce for market and would sometimes take a trip in the lorry with their dad or ride on the tractor with their grandad. Sadly, due to the surge in supermarkets and recession in 1989 the family closed down the business.

Since then the field was planted to grass and became the beautiful meadow you see now. Lucy & Marilyn both celebrated their weddings at Mill Farm
